Our first New Year's Eve here, we were blown away by the amount of fireworks at midnight.  It seriously sounds like the city is being bombed for about an hour after midnight.  Last year, Brad was all over the fireworks, and he bought a bunch that he and the kids set off.  This year, he had every intention of buying even more and producing an epic fireworks display.  But, since he and I felt so lousy, the fireworks plans pretty much fizzled out.  We were duds.

This morning, I found this firework carcass on our front walk.
So, even though we personally did not explode anything, we sort of participated.

It's amazing to me that the Germans are all about protecting nature, not littering, and recycling, but they have no issues leaving new years crap all over the city for weeks on end.
