Tonight, I went hometeaching with Brad. We visited a couple in which the husband, Buck, is American and his wife is German. Buck was here in the U.S. military when Berlin was an occupied city, and he met his wife when he was in the hospital - she was his nurse (isn't this romantic?). He didn't speak German, and she didn't speak English, but after knowing each other only two weeks, he proposed and she accepted. They've now been married 20+ years. The amazing thing is that they still don't speak each other's language. They understand each other fine, but he only speaks English, and she only speaks German, so every conversation is bilingual.
Another amazing thing is that Buck graduated from Orem High School, which is my high school. He pulled out his old Tigerama yearbooks from the early 1970's, and I had a great time looking through them at pictures of my alma mater.

That blows me away! It seems to me that one would have to work really hard at NOT learning a language to have not picked up at least some in the past 20 years.
That is an awesome love tale. How romantic. You are living a part of history. Loves it!
