To say Luke was excited to be placed on the Frosh team this season would be a big, fat lie. He was pretty much devastated to be one of only two sophomores who didn't advance to JV.  That hurt, especially when he felt he out-played several of the players who did move up.

But then the Frosh coach took him aside and told him he (the coach) specifically requested Luke play on Frosh. He wanted a leader, someone the younger players could look up to. Coach Peck told Luke he is well-qualified to play JV, but Coach held him on Frosh. Essentially, it was all Coach's fault, because he wanted Luke over any of the other JV players.

Then the team voted Luke as one of the captains, and Luke has STEPPED UP. This is him cheering his team on, yelling so loud and so much that he came home with no voice.

I am super proud of this player of mine. He could sulk and berate his less-experienced team (and don't kid yourself, he gets pretty frustrated), but instead he is making himself part of the solution. And he's playing all innings of every game, which he wouldn't do on JV.

So yeah, it stung his pride. But I think this may be his best season yet.
